Hospitality Restaurant Management Programs

A bachelor’s degree in restaurant and food service management provides particularly strong preparation for a career in Food Service Management and Hospitality. A number of colleges and universities offer 4-year programs in restaurant and hotel management or institutional food service management. For those not interested in pursuing a 4-year degree, other institutions offer programs in the field leading to an associate degree or other formal certification.

Employment of food service managers is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations through 2012. In addition to job openings arising out of employment growth, the need to replace managers who transfer to other occupations or stop working will create many job opportunities. Applicants with a bachelor’s or an associate degree in restaurant and institutional food service management should have the best job opportunities.

Median annual earnings of salaried food service managers were $35,790 in 2002. The middle 50 percent earned between $27,910 and $47,120.
